The Enriched History of the Medicine Hat Horse

The mythology of a Medicine Hat Horse is steeped in Native American tradition and legend.  They are believed to have magical abilities which would protect its rider from injury and death in battle and were thought to have special abilitiies to warn their riders of danger and to find wild game hiding in forests and canyons.

Their mainly white coats were often decorated with other magical symbols, believed to increase the horses powers.

Some believed these magestic horses held supernatural protection against harm, they were considered so special that only Tribal Chiefs, Medicine Men and Great Warriors were allowed to ride them.  I'm (Lorinda) uncertain if Medicine Hat Horses are magical or mystical and yet I'm aware of the immense energy and inner peace I feel when I'm around them.  I believe we've been blessed every time another one of our horses gives birth on our farm and being around these horses answers a deep calling within me. I'm very grateful for every opportunity to be in their presence as being one with a horse is as close to Heaven anyone can get.  A person is able to touch a horse but when a horse touches your heart - that is True Magic.

Medicine Wheel

There are many different ways to heal and with the passing of each and every day we are learning more.  We at WELL Kapped Farms like to combine the best of both Eastern and Western medicine.  We are the first to load the trailer and head on down to see the Vet and yet sometimes we find that at times the most natural cures work the best.  We continue to use antibiotics as well as other natural remedies and alternatives (of which most can be easily found in the horse feed shops or health food stores).

Being open to the effects of each method has created a whole new world for us, the farm and the animals.  We continue to learn things everyday as situations pop up on the farm, new scenarios and new methods to treat are explored.  With the awareness that there are many different cultures, beliefs religions, spirits and Gods we at the farm are buildinga structure (pictured above) which we like to call a Place of Hopoe.  These structures can be found all over the world and are used by many different people in many different cultures.

Our Place of Hope will be constructed by many different stones from different parts of the country.

There will be a stone to represent every person in the WELLS family and some stones will be

added in memory of past loved ones that played a part in our lives at one point or another.

This structure will be about peace, harmony and balance and will encompass part of the legacy

of which WELL Kapped Farms has become and will remain for years and generations to cherish.

It will be open for anyone to use, share, add rocks to, say prayers or meditations, make a wish

or to just simply relax and bask in it's healing energies.  The structure, once completed- will be

based on the unity of man, animal, spirit and Mother Earth.

"Every horse is special and is born with a natural gift.  We try and allow them to expand their gift through natural settings and gentle hands."
