INSPIRATION

Inner peace can be found places and in many faces, we find that space within the helms of Mother Earth.

We at WELL Kapped Farms are very passionate about what we do and inner peace is prodimently found in the animals we raise and we would like to share that joy, our joy with the world.

An animals worth is not depicted by the price you put on its head but by the heart and the bond created when you become one with it.  With time and patience you begin to know, be and see how your horse does, and there is NO price that can be placed on that type of bond.

Stallions | Mares | Foals

We purchased many great prospect foals at young ages and have been working as a team to prepare them for their lives here with us.  We also have mares from a wide variety of great horse breeders and sales.

We pride ouselves on raising great stock and in some cases carry on the legacy and traditons of some great names in our own breeding program.

Heifers

With farm blood coursing through our veins, Doug and Lorinda, who were both raised on a farm, are now happy to see their children and grandchildren have the same experiences.  Each year the Well Kapped Farm has one or two cattle drives that the entire family partakes in, even the grandbabies!

Although we profess to not raise "facet pants" spoiled cattle, our heifers do receive the best of everything allowing them to have good feet and utters resulting in quality milk production as well as breeding good mothers - making them a good long term investment.

Each heifer is bred to Angus Bulls to assure ease with calving. For a past many years our focus has not been on any one specific breed but a selection of many good breeds as to satisfy any good rancher or cattleman.  In 2015, we will ofer over 120 heifers consisting of Black (bred Black Angus), Simmental, Charolais, Red Angus as well as some exotic influences.

Hogs

In 2013 WELL Kapped Farms went from Weaner pigs -matured and sold each Fall to breeding and raising their own.  The pigs are raised outdoors in a natural environment among all the other fur beasts of the farm.  The sows birth outdoors, unassisted and within a few short days will bring the piglets out of the straw out into the world.  Our belief is that piglets are better raised outdoors and are able to source their own iron and nutrients from the soil.

Raising pigs has been one of the greatest adventures the Farm has undertaken.  To sit and watch the baby's follow their momma is absolutely priceless.  You can't help but giggle when they've found something new and all want to run back to momma first to tell her.  It's a pure delight.

Having the pigs run free range on the yard (until about 6 weeks old)  has helped immensely in th training of the horses.  The piglets run in and out of the horses feet and the horses learn that something spastic and noisy can play underneath them and not hurt them.  In turn allowing the horse, in a natural way, to be careful and un-afraidn of quick movement.  Some days it looks like the piglets and foals are playing tag!

Poultry

The newest addition to the line-up is poultry.  Adding chicken and turkeys to the mix last Fall as proved to be almost as much fun as the piglets.  Not only were the chickens brought in for meat and eggs, they also aid in socializing the horses.  A chicken, which is a spastic, crazy bird that crows, clucks, flys and flaps at the drop of hat asists in calming the spook and startle response out of the horses.  Another great example of quieting a horse in a natural way.

The horses again, are introduced to another small, quick moving animal that will dart between their feet without causing them any harm.  The eggs are just the bonus here!
